Meet your Tutor David Ewing.
I studied a Bachelor of fine arts at the university of Tasmania in Hobart and majored in Photography. Then moved to Melbourne where I began assisting photographers to further my photographic knowledge. This is when I began to learn to see light and how to be able to control and manipulate it. Gradually I grew my freelance business and was shooting a lot of editorial, fashion, corporate and personal series. I also was shooting a lot of stock photography which later funded 3 years travel around Asia, Europe and the Middle East. In 2004 I was approached by a Chinese company to shoot for them. This was an exciting opportunity that I jumped at! I was based in Xiamen – Fujian provence where I lived for one and a half years shooting many catalogues and advertising campaigns for the Chinese fashion industry. During further travel I wrote these two photography courses and began teaching online. When I returned back to Australia I began teaching photography face to face for Tractor (at that time they were called Grenadi). Teaching has given me the opportunity to expose budding photographers to the skills I wish I was taught when I was studying as I understand what you really need to know. Its been a wonderful journey as a photographer and teacher, seeing so many students reach their goals producing moving and stunning imagery. I am looking forward to taking this journey with you all and am excited to see your imagery develop over the duration of these courses. Welcome to Photography Studies!
